It may be Halloween but you don’t need to be a sinner, so here are seven sins to avoid on your practical test.
- Not bringing relevant paperwork to your test. To take the Practical Driving Test you need: Your Provisional Licence AND Your Theory Test Pass Certificate
- Not bringing a car! Might sound obvious, but mix-ups do happen with some Driving Instructors not providing their car for the test.
- Forgetting your glasses or contact lenses. Your examiner will ask you to read a numberplate from 20 or 20.5 metres away, if you can’t you won’t be getting in the car yet alone going on the test, so if you need glasses or contacts for driving you need to make sure you have them with you!
- Staying up late the night before. As our other blog posts says; it’s important to get a good night sleep so that you’re alert and able to concentrate and focus.
- Having too much caffeine – if you’re trying to compensate for staying up late the night before with a double espresso this could be bad news as it can make you jittery and exacerbate any nerves and anxiety.
- Wearing impractical shoes – you don’t want to fail your test because your choice of footwear is more suited to a catwalk in Milan than the roads of Manchester. Shoes for driving should enable maximum control of the pedals so a soft shoe with a thin sole which has a little grip would be a good choice. Of course it would be sensible to take your test in the shoes you’ve had your lessons in so you’re comfortable with the feel of the pedals and aren’t going to brake or accelerate too sharply!
- Taking your BMW Mini Convertible to have your test in. If you are taking your own car to have your test in then make sure it’s suitable and allowed by contacting the DVSA beforehand. Mini Convertible is on the banned list because it doesn’t give the examiner all round vision.
Avoid these Seven Sins and you’ll be on your way to a saintly pass.
